Don't Mess With The Bees

Melissa glares at the giant man on the sky, hating his guts. This war was ending here and now, no more sacrifices, no more stupid attacks. Only now... only here, would this end.

Melissa rushes into the building with bullets whizzing past her head and rockets thundering as they spiral up, up, and crash down. Two steps behind, but keeping up its defense, what the giant bee machine that the man referred to as "Buddy." Melissa did not know if that was its' real name or not, but she did not care. He was on her side now, and he was getting her in that giant steel building. The bee shoots off one of it's cannon balls, ramming it into the door and creating such a big crater in it, that it was a least 70 feet deep before it opened up to the building. Melissa jumps over the messed up crater and charges in.

Inside, it was bear steel with a glossy exterior and stainless floors. Everything was technology based, with pads and screens covering every wall in the hallway. There was not a single gun in here though, probably so that it did not mess up the interior. Instead of guns, two floating orbs with magnets on either side and a single scanning eye in the center of its forehead, probed the hallway, finding Melissa's heat signature. She twirls one of her javelins and lunges at it with her wounded shoulder, probably not getting enough momentum and force behind it, but enough to cut the wiring and stop the orb from moving. The bee comes in, with its javelins and starts taking down three at a time, empty spheres of electrical type and sparks scattering the grounds as they advance towards the goal.

The goal. The goal of this mission was two giant steel doors with an electronic lock shutting it from the inside and out. There was a password key next to it, but only a selected few knew about it. To be specific, only two really did.

The bee advances towards the key pad and gentle types in the number combination that makes the doors click open. After the click came a loud groaning, screeching sound as the giant bolt pulled away from the opposite side of the door and unlocks it. As the doors slowly open wide to reveal thousands upon thousands of computers, software, and electronic tools with the same gruff and rugged man from the projection outside, sitting in a chair, watching the monitors.

"I knew I should have changed the passwords," was the only thing he said before he quickly turns around, throwing a knife towards the two. As the knife slowly cuts the air, both the bee and Melissa try to dodge it, not knowing who it was meant for. Unfortunately, right when the man threw the first knife, a second followed, finding its way right into the cavity of Melissa's rib cage, splitting it in half and digging into her intestines until they were completely and utterly shredded. Melissa goes down with a painful shriek as her blood spills on the floor. The machine was quickly to her side to comfort her.

"Mel-issa," says the robotic voice.

"Hey Buddy," chuckles Melissa as a stream of blood is coughed out of her lungs. "Sorry I couldn't make it... Guess it's just you now. Man... did you miss out... we would have been... would have been..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she coughs up a handful of blood, it spilling everywhere, and she rolls out of the robots javelins and onto the ground, motionless.

"Mel-issa? Mel-issa!" says the robot, almost in panic. It then whips its head over to look at the man who created it, eyes seeming to dance and flicker with rage. "Sh-e was you-re daugh-ter! H-ow co-uld you!"

"It was me or her Buddy! She was suppose to be raised better then this, but now look at her. Such a shame too... she would have made an excellent Honijbij... Oh well... look at the runt now," laughs the man as his belly jiggles a little.

"Sh-e was you-re daugh-ter!" yells the machine as it quickly gets up and propels itself to the man in front of it.

"Magnet! Go!" yells the man as he takes a frightened step back. There was a giant ball of steel that was made up of the little orbs of magnets that Melissa and the machine had fought earlier, but this time, they were all stuck together. They seemed to hum and spark as one being and the man just laughs.

"Do you think you were the only machine I would create! I hate to break it to you, but you weren't even the best!!! I might have messed up on you, but I've gotta ton that I'm still producing that will be ten times better then you!"

"N-o," says the robot defiantly, not stopping or flinching as the big ball of steel is hurled at him.

"W-what are you doing?" asks the man, getting scared again.

"A-venging a fr-iend!" says the bee defiantly as he swings at the ball of steel, separating the orbs into single units. After it separated them, it slide its javelin through the center of each separate cell, puncturing a giant hole where the camera was. The pile of broken cells started to add up around the machine's feet, getting bigger and bigger until there was no more orbs to destroy. The bee then swiftly turns its eyesight on the man and walks forward, taking one step at a time.

"I-I order you to stop!" yells the man, but the machine does not listen.

"Shutdown program, password 33214," says the man. The bee goes off line, hunching over and it's eyes flickering to a dark maroon. The man then laughs at the silly robot and turns around.

"Over-ride or-der," says the robot as the eyes quickly flicker on. "re-booting. Re-booting. Start-up com-plete. Proc-ede with annihilation."

"What!" yells the man as he angrily turns around to glare at the robot. "Override passcode Momma's Boy, proceed with shutdown. Repeat proceed with shutdown."

"De-nied," says the robot as he gets closer and closer to the man.

"Code; Rustbucket. System freeze and go on lock down," says the man as sweat starts to drip down his sharp features. This seems to do the trick because the robot starts to struggle as he gets closer and closer to the man, slowly stopping with inches between them. The man then tries to scoot free, missing the bee's outstretched javelin. The bee watches every movement of the man and quickly lunges it's long pointy javelin through the cavity protecting the heart and exiting the spinal cord, a giant gaping hole in its wake. The man spits up blood as his lungs burst and fall to his knees, his eyes wide and unbelieving of the skeptical that accord before him.

"You ha-ve re-pen-ted for you-r s-ins," says the bee as it watches the man fall on his face, body motionless as the life drains out of him. The robot then turns to the now dead Melissa and walks over to her, stooping down to pick her gentle up and blasting a hole through the top to escape. An urgent flapping is heard from its wings as it lifts off into the air, flying towards the old barricades that she grew up in.

As he arrives at the barricades and gently lays her body next to the Colonel's, laying them side by side. As he looks up, he can see there catch phrase along the top of the now destroyed gate. The catch phrase was really the only thing still standing in these ruins. As he goes over the words, one by one, liking how they looks, liking what they mean, he tries them out, just to make sure.

"Pro-tect the we-ak, gi-ve to th-e po-or, ser-ve you-r coun-try, and re-mem-ber the de-ad," reads the robot, loving how they sounded. With one final glance down at its only friend, it takes off and flaps into the dusk, vowing to live by those words from now on.

So, if you listen closely, you might hear a faint humming sound in the wind. Do not be scared, for it will always, and forever more, simply be a Lone Soldier.
